Torriano School Gate
A pair of steel gates marking the entrance to Torriano Junior School in Camden, north London. The composition takes the letters of the school's name — drawn from the Edwardian stone plaque above the original entrance — and rearranges them as an abstract field across three panels, cut from sheet steel. The references are Duchamp and Cage: chance, recomposition, the readymade letter. The gates form the threshold to a new gatehouse building by Cullinan Studio, where Tom was project architect. Completed 2010.
